In Berlin we stayed with Simon, Lena and Joseph. Simon was an old work-mate of Wim’s who had been living and working in Berlin for a year.
The trip to Berlin had a surprising start with Holly accidentally sitting next to the only person she knew in Berlin, Lisa, a couch-surfer. This was unexpected for a city with the same size population as New Zealand.
We got into Berlin’s culture and history by going on a few walking tours where we learnt more about Berlin’s crazy past, saw lots of street art and checked out remnants of the Berlin Wall among other things.
Outdoor Karaoke on Sunday afternoon was a unique Berlin experience. Along with a crowd of several hundred people we got to listen to the good, the bad and the weird. It was held at Mauerpark where there was also a hipster flea market and a million buskers. The perfect place to spend a Sunday.
