Slovenia

Reading time ~1 minute

We went to stay for 3 nights with Nina and her family in a small village in Slovenia called Leskovec. Nina had stayed at a couple of our Wellington flats while she was travelling around New Zealand.

Nina’s Mum (Malena) introduced us to some delicious Slovenian food and Nina’s Dad (Bowen) introduced us to some delicious Slovenian wine.

We really enjoyed the Slovenian hospitality especially the custom of providing your guests with slippers. Nina’s family had a particularly epic slipper collection.

Slovenia is a very beautiful country and autumn is when it is at its best. Nina took us out to see Lake Bled, Lake Bohinj, castles, Postojna Cave and Ljubljana. With so much natural beauty we were very trigger happy with our camera.

Oh and we also saw the oldest vine in the world still producing grapes! Over 400 years old! We didn’t get to taste any wine from this particular vine as we are not an emperor or queen of any country but it would probably taste terrible anyway.

We had one bad day of weather which we used to catch up on a few things and bake Nina’s family a Pavlova.
