Split

Reading time ~1 minute

We needed a break from traveling and some time to catch up on a few things so we stayed put in Split for two weeks.

After not being able to find a place to watch the rugby semi-final in Zadar, we were happy to find our accommodation 100 metres away from a rugby field with a ‘rugby bar’.

Split is a city that gets its fair share of tourists even in the off season, with one or two cruise ships arriving each day. Split emerged from a settlement around a palace built by Roman emperor Diocletian. The old part of town is very beautiful with a maze of narrow streets. It was a fun place to wander around.

Even with lots of tourists we managed to claim a beach for ourselves for swimming and sun-bathing. The weather was amazing for our whole time there and we couldn’t believe our luck to be sunbathing so late in the year. Especially considering it was so cold that we were wearing our down jackets 3 weeks ago.
